#1 - For clearing - The unique, identical bell sound provides cleansing effect which clears low vibrational energy such as sadness, anger, hostility, and negativity in general. Therapeutic and healing times ideal for space clearing include:
- Moving into a new apartment, house or office. Because the space may carry old energies from previous occupants, playing the tingsha drives away remaining negative energies allowing a person to gain a fresh start in the space;
- After experiencing and illness and being bed bound. It is recommended that the bedding be washing, the floors cleaned, and windows opened before sounding the Tingsha to refresh the space;
- When someone has died. Space clearing will dislodge any lingering residue of sadness, anxiety or fear.
#2 - For toning - The tingsha bell sounds are used therapeutically to release blockages of body, mind and spirit creating space for one's natural flow of energy. Toning is especially effective when one experiences difficulty in concentration and meditation, is undergoing stress, grief, depression, is lacking in confidence and enthusiasm, and has poor, weak breathing patterns.
#3 - For meditation - Traditionally, tingshas are used to signify the beginning and end of a meditation session. Additionally, the tingsha sound brings one into the present moment and helps focus the mind for period of meditation time.
It is believed that Tingshas originated in Tibetan Bon Shamanism which preceded Buddhism but was rapidly adopted by Buddhists who recognized their spiritual value. To play a Tingsha, the bells are held, one in each hand, and striking the edges to create their unique sound. Many report that tinghsa vibration helps heal and clear up tinnitus.
