For birthdays we created a ritual of lighting three candles. Before lighting each candle, each person spoke about the past year and the present moment and made affirmations for the future year. This simple act made for a more meaningful ceremony than the usual cake and candles alone. - Lama Tsultrim Allione (A wife, mother of three, Tibetan Buddhist nun)
When we repeatedly utilize textual and mantra recitation and perform mudra to invoke specific aspects of our own Buddha Essence or Natural Perfection, we establish those beneficial formations in the mind. The jealous mind wants what others have, be it physical attributes, wealth, intelligence, someone else's spouse, their job, status, spiritual accomplishments, and so on. Because if focuses on what it doesn't have, it feels impoverished and discontented all the time. - Dzigar Kongtrul
There are footless beings, beings with two feet, four feet, and many feet, with form and without form, with thought and without thought, and not entirely with thought and not entirely without thought. I will accord with and take care of all these many kinds of beings, providing all manner of services and offerings for them. I will treat them with the same respect I show my own parents, teachers, elders, Arhats (a perfected person), and even the Tathagatas (other Buddhas). I will serve them all equally. - Buddha
The new attitude gained in the course of analysis tends sooner or later to become inadequate in one way or another, and necessarily so, because the flow of life again and again demands fresh adaptation. Adaptation is never achieved once and for all.… In the last resort it is highly improbable that there could ever be a therapy which got rid of all difficulties. Man needs difficulties; they are necessary for health. - Carl Jung
