THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - ANTICIPATING THE FUTURE

10/31/2023

Overly anticipating the future and becoming attached to specific outcomes contribute to your suffering. - Margaret Meloni

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - OLD AGE

10/30/2023

To talk about old age as an impediment is an excuse to be lazy. - Vanda Scaravelli

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

10/29/2023

Buddhism takes the working of heart and mind to issue. External appearances are of no concern. The heart, abandoning home and casting off desires, is without attachment. This is what is taught as the superior practice. -   Shonin

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - BODY ACCEPTANCE

10/28/2023

Not to create suffering around the body is to receive the body in all its aspects—its sicknesses, illnesses, fevers, good health, vigor, fatigue, youth, old age. - Ajahn Sumedho

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - AWARENESS

10/27/2023

If you pay attention to fellow Buddhists, you will see that those practitioners who have a stronger conviction in rebirth are usually more mindful and skillful than those who do not. They are more cautious with their physical and verbal actions. They assume that the consequences of their every action will come back around. Ironically, as a result of such attention to karma, they are actually freer.  We do not believe in “punishment” in Buddhism, but we do recognize that every action has a consequence and that anything we experience now is the result of previous actions. That is the law of karmic result.  - Phakchok Rinpoche

FIVE REASONS WHY THIS DOCTOR LOVES SOUND BATHS

10/27/2023

Dr. Will Cole, DNM, IFMCP, DC is a leading functional medicine expert.  He participates in, and recommends, sound baths to his clients citing these five benefits:

1.  Sound baths calm your nervous system.  Using various instruments such as a gong, large crystal bowls, Tibetan metal singing bowls and more, creates healing frequencies in the body.  "
Every sound we hear with our ears emits a specific frequency and some frequencies have been shown to guide the brain into a theta state, which is well-known to induce a state of calm and relaxation.   In fact, it’s the same type of state that is induced by meditation," he says.

2.  Sound baths require minimal effort.  You just have to show up.  Compare that to researching out herbs and special diets, all of which take time and can become become expensive.

3.  Sound baths reduce pain.  Dr. Cole recommends sound baths to many of his clients but especially those with chronic pain because "Studies have shown that certain sound frequencies can help reduce pain."

4.  Sound baths foster a sense of community.
"I remember the first time I laid down with my pillow, surrounded by others, and experienced my first sound bath. There’s something magical about experiencing something like that with other humans, who are also being put into a similar state of relaxation, which only seems to amplify your own benefits."

5.  Sound baths make you happier and more energetic.  He notes that various studies show that sound baths alleviate depression because the music prompts the brain to release dopamine, a brain neurotransmitter which improves mood.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - CRUELTY

10/26/2023

To compound the suffering of those who are unattractive is an almost unforgivable offense.  - Rabbi Joseph Telushkin

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - WHERE ARE YOU HEADED?

10/25/2023

If you don't know where you're going, that's where you'll end up. - Bridget Blair

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - PERSISTENCE

10/24/2023

Think of your practice like a stream.  As time goes by the flowing water will wear down the rocks in its path.  Even drops of water falling on a rock will make a hole in the rock if they persist long enough. - Sheng Yen

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - NATURE

10/23/2023

If humanity continues to be lost in the mentality of exploiting nature, it will not only cause environmental degradation, but we will all lose something truly precious: our spiritual bond with nature. It is time for us to revive the ancient wisdom that can open our eyes to recognize the sanctity of all things. - Anam Thubten
