THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Non-thinking thought allows us to access a different part of the brain.  One that can see more angles than the direct path.  - Rick Rubin

THE NUMBER #1 REASON PEOPLE QUIT YOGA

4/29/2023

Ryan Martinez has been teaching yoga for nearly a decade.  He recently asked - and discovered - the number #1 reason people quit yoga.  Here it is:  a perceived lack of time.   Mr. Martinez then offers these two insights to combat and defuse this perception.

1.  Make yourself a priority.  "
Identify what is important AND urgent for you to accomplish in your day. Anything that will not cause a significant impact to your finances, job security, health or relationships should not be considered urgent. You should make sure you are at the top of this list. Period. You should be a top priority in your life. Then, identify what is important but NOT urgent."

2.  Schedule your practice.
"Schedule your practice. Write your practice time on your calendar or in your phone like you would any other appointment. Use our app to sign in to class and once you have it written down and scheduled, commit to it."

He concludes by reminding yogis that "staying with a consistent practice is no easy task, but it is one of best things you can do for your overall health and wellbeing."

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Concentration is the absence of distraction, not a furrowed-brow intensity of the mind. It is a state for which we practice, a state in which we perceive things as they are. - Tashi Nyima

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

People panic easily when faced with danger.  Therefore, in facing emergencies, we must first clam ourselves down. By being cool-headed and steady, we will be able to take appropriate action to save ourselves and other. - Hsing Yun

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

You are miserable because you are constrained by your own thoughts, like a silkworm making a cocoon around itself. If you let go of your thoughts, your problems will vanish like the silkworm moth that emerges from the cocoon and flies away. — Venerable Pomnyun Sunim

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

4/25/2023

If I were to become aware of my habitual thoughts, perceptions, and sensations, rather than being carried away by them, their power over me would begin to fade. I would experience their coming and going as nothing more than the natural function of the mind, in the same way that waves naturally ripple across the surface of a lake or ocean. - Mingyur Rinpoche

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Live your life fully. It doesn’t have to look like anybody else’s.  - Gina Sharpe

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

4/23/2023

Don’t be persuaded to demonstrate yoga at parties.  It is quite likely that as soon as your friends know you   are a student they will want you to stand on your head.
Do not cooperate.  Yoga is not a side show or a circus stunt for entertaining bystanders.  - Indra Devi

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

4/22/2023

When you truly apologize for something you regret, any hurt the person felt may be completely dissipated by your apology. Expressing regret on your own initiative, before the other person has even let you know that he or she is hurt, is a way to refresh your relationship. - Chan Khong

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

When we give our best effort in whatever we do, we will have no guilt or regret during self-reflection. - Hsing Yun
