THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - DON'T OVERDO YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE

1/29/2024

Buddhism does not consider the undertaking of ascetic practices and austerities as a necessary prerequisite for liberation. Austere practices however, do have a place in the Buddhadharma, but they must always be chosen voluntarily and preferably be time-limited.

Sleeping on the floor is one such austere practice. When younger, the floor was my trusted friend in austerity. In old age, rising from the floor became difficult.  -  Tashi Nyima

1/28/2024

Yoga can take years off your face and years from your body – and add years to your life.
- Desmond Dunne

When you are practicing a pose in yoga, can you find the delicate balance between taking the pose to its maximum extent, and taking it beyond that point so that there is too much effort creating wrong tension in the body.  - BKS Iyengar

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - BEING REASONABLE

1/25/2024

For people who worry a lot, ask yourself:  ‘Can I do something about this situation?’  If the answer is yes, then there’s no need to worry. Act.  If the answer is  no, again worrying is useless. Relax and accept the situation. - Thubten Chodron

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - OUTLOOK DETERMINES OUTCOME

1/24/2024

We need to change our idea of what aging is.  If I know my biological potential is 130 years, then I don't consider myself middle-aged until I'm 65. One of the great principles of mind/body medicine is that expectancies determine outcome. If you expect to remain strong in old age, you will.   - Deepak Chopra

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - ENJOYING TODAY

1/23/2024

Waking up this morning, I smile.
Twenty-four brand new hours are before me.
I vow to live fully in each moment
and to look at all beings with eyes of compassion.
-  Thich Nhat Habh

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - PAIN IS PART OF LIVING

1/22/2024

Society leads us to think all pain is a mistake. This leads us into constant contention with reality. Discomfort, disease, illness, aging, limitations, and any and all ailments of the body are part of the deal of embodiment. - Sebene Selassie

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - FOCUS OR PERSPECTIVE?

1/21/2024

If zooming in gives you focus, zooming out gives you perspective. -  Giovanni
