One should become the master of one's mind rather than let one's mind master him. - Nichiren

US NAVY'S PHYSICAL READINESS TEST NOW INCLUDES THIS COMMON YOGA POSE . . .

9/29/2022

The US Navy has replaced sit ups with forearm plank pose as a main exercise for building strong abs. Their "Navy Physical Readiness Tet"  (PRT)  requires that service members now have to pass now includes a one-minute forearm plank instead of a two-minute sit-up test.  The reason for the change was reported in the magazine Yoga Journal where they noted:  "Earlier this year, the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) determined that forearm plank is a better test of core strength and abdominal muscle endurance. According to a memo published by the Navy Administration, the repeated spinal flexion movement of the 'curl-up' (also known as a 'sit-up') is not 'operationally relevant, may aggravate lower-back injuries, and does not appropriately challenge the abdominal musculature.' ”

Here's a photo of the pose.  Challenge yourself and see if you can hold it for a full 60 seconds.

It is important for us also sometimes to think of the good things we have done. This can give us lots of joy, lots of happiness, lots of lightness, and it will also be an incentive to do more and more such actions of love. - Godwin Samararatne

WHAT ARE THE THREE POISONS IN BUDDHISM?  - BEST ANSWER

9/24/2022

The Buddha described three poisons which cause people and the world the most problems. These three poisons – sometimes referred to as three fires or three negative states of mind – are greed, anger and ignorance.  They can be neutralized and even eliminated by cultivating three positive states of mind which are an aspect of a liberated mind. Those three opposing wholesome attitudes are generosity, lovingkindness and wisdom.  They are activated by right thinking, right action and right meditation. - VMP

Given that our actions are so important and yet so frequently misguided, our wisdom has to be tactical — and strategic — in fostering actions that are truly beneficial. - Thanissaro Bhikkhu
