From time to time, evaluate who you’re spending time with. The Buddha taught that we become like the people we most associate with. So, take a close look at the people you are frequently see. If they are generally negative, pessimistic, lacking in self-discipline and constantly complaining about life, their attitude can influence your mind and mood.

There is a baby Buddha in our store consciousness, and we have to give him or her a chance to be born. Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy. People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar. When you have found a way to do good, you are at peace with yourself and happiness becomes possible. You learn how to suffer. If you know how to suffer, you suffer much, much less. And then you know how to make good use of suffering to create joy and happiness. A friend can be a teacher, a fellow practitioner can be a teacher, and you yourself can be a teacher. A teacher is anyone who helps you practice and find more freedom—even freedom from your teacher. Every day we touch what is wrong, and, as a result, we are becoming less and less healthy. That is why we have to learn to practice touching what is not wrong – inside us and around us. |
