Eknath Easwaran, a Vedic meditation teacher and author, says that repeating a simple mantra is so easy that "most of us cannot believe it is charged with great power." Whether the mantra is Ram Ram, or Jesus Jesus, or OM, he says that those who regularly repeat a mantra soon discover it is not merely a mechanical activity but something which becomes a "direct line" to the Higher Self. The simplicity of a mantra is both stunning and highly effective. "We don't have to make any promises or commitments," he says. "We only have to repeat the mantra when we are agitated - angry, afraid, speeded up, or caught in worries or regrets - the Self opens a little door to the reserve of our deeper consciousness."
