A person want to become a scholar and a leader overnight, and to sleep that night as well.
- Rabbi Yaizel of Navorodock Rejoicing is one of the swiftest ways to create virtue. Many sacred texts say that those who rejoice in other’s virtue accumulate an equal amount of virtue. Similarly, we have to be careful not to rejoice in, or wish for, someone’s misfortune or nonvirtue; otherwise, we will make equal nonvirtue. - Chagdud Tulku
Yoga can be a great cure for insomnia. A 2014 study found that 12 weeks of yoga sessions improved sleep quality, sleep efficiency and sleep latency for old adults. Similarly, another study on 120 nurses found that those who performed yoga more than two times a week for 50-60 minutes/session reported improved sleep quality and lower work stress compared to the non-yoga group.
The Buddha did not ask for blind faith. Just the opposite. He taught that all teachings - his own included - should be viewed with some skepticism. One should listen, think, and, if the teachings appear to be reasonable and helpful, only then should they be accepted.
Here's how the Dalai Lama says to approach your study of the Buddhist path: "It might be useful if I mention a few words here about what should be their approach to Buddhism. In the beginning one should remain skeptical and rely on questioning and checking the teachings based on one's understanding. One can then have trust and confidence in the teachings. Buddha himself suggested this approach when he told his followers to accept his teaching after due analysis, and not merely out of respect and faith. Hence it is important to know that the main cause of faith is reflecting on reasons. This promotes conviction and helps develop actual experience. As one thinks more and more upon reasonings, one's ascertainment increases, and this in turn, induces experience, whereby faith becomes more firm." - Dalai Lama 14th Low-density lipoprotein —LDL— is also known as the bad cholesterol which, when increases, raises your odds of heart diseases.
According to this study, six months of practicing yoga helped participants significantly reduce LDL and Triglycerides and thus improved their cardiovascular activities. The same study also found that yoga can improve your thyroid function and make you burn more fat. You cannot be intoxicated and mindful at the same time. Whether you are an addict or not, if you care about awakening, if you want to develop wisdom and compassion, then a drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle is what the Buddha taught.- Noah Levine
We all have attachments, or to use a contemporary term, addictions. They may be material or mental; They may be worldly, philosophical, or physical. Attachments may be superficial and transient or deeply ingrained and stubbornly fixed. Attachments have one thing in common, however: they all create aggravation, turmoil in our lives. Through practice, is is possible to separate yourself from attachments. - Sheng Yen
A recent study by the University of Waterloo found that 25 minutes of mindfulness meditation and Hatha yoga can improve cognitive functions, elevate energy levels, and control emotional responses.
The study included three groups completing 25 minutes of mindfulness meditation, Hatha yoga or quiet reading. The research team found that participants did better following both yoga and meditation. Though reading is relaxing it did not appear to produce benefits. The study also found that those who did yoga were sporadically more focused for the first few hours following the session. The Buddha taught a way out of suffering, and addicts (along with their family) suffer as a result of the addition. According to the Buddha, the way out of suffering is to follow what has come to be called the Noble Eightfold Path. Here's how it can be adapted as a recovery tool:
It is important to understand these eight do not necessarily move in a logical, linear pattern but can cycle around, supporting and reinforcing each step. (please feel free to re-post and/or link to your social media) We must believe that a way will be made out of no way. - Martin Luther King, Jr.
