Live with compassion. Work with compassion. Die with compassion. Meditate with compassion. Enjoy with compassion. When problems come, experience them with compassion. —Lama Zopa Rinpoche
1. Is your life balanced enough to support a regular and useful meditation practice? It can be counterproductive to add meditation to a life already packed with too many activities.
2. Do you have a healthy balance between work and time off? 3. Is there an appropriate balance between time with others and time alone? These are questions raised by Gil Fronsdal, author and meditation teacher who recommends evaluating why meditation is or isn't working for you. Terrorism is an expression of spiritual deafness, moral blindness and irrational anger.
- Georg Feuerstein "When moving into a new neighborhood, many of us are most concerned with finding a beautiful house. From Judaism's perspective, it is more important to ascertain the character of the people who live in the neighborhood. This is the environment in which we and our children will live; the people we see on the street are the people with whom we will associate, and the better their characters, the more likely it is that we and our children will grow in goodness." - Rabbi Joseph Telushkin
If one hears the Dharma but fails to practice it, it is the same as never having heard it.
- Lankavatara Sutra There are many ways to transform low self-esteem. I might encourage you to research what is really going on so you might recognize that your mind is exaggerating something, that maybe your mind is creating a “problem.” Or I might introduce you to basic goodness. Everyone has wonderful natures—love, compassion, wisdom. First, when you are trying to look for your goodness, you may see more of the bad part. But as you look again and again, then you can see your good qualities more and more clearly. When you see your good qualities, they can truly manifest. - Yongey Mingyur Rimpoche
If you are anxious to get enlightened, you have created a barrier between yourself and enlightenment. A tree should be watered very gradually as it is growing. Do not be in a hurry to eat the fruit. - Sheng Yen
Buddha saw the whole human race going to hell by this animal killing. So he appeared to teach ahimsa, nonviolence, being compassionate on the animals and human beings. In the Christian religion also, it is clearly stated, 'Thou shall not kill'. So everywhere animal killing is restricted. In no religion the unnecessary killing of animals is allowed. But nobody is caring. The killing process is increasing, and so are the reactions. - A. C. Bhaktivedanta
People try so hard to let go of their negative behaviors and thoughts, and it doesn't work, or it works only for a short time. I didn't let go of my negative thoughts; I questioned them, and then they let go of me, and so did my addictions and depression. - Byron Katie
Work with this acronym: TLC. It doesn't stand for 'tender loving care' rather, the letters stand for Take it; Leave it; or Change it and are recommended by author Marsha Petrie Sue in her book Toxic People, as the place to begin when dealing with a challenging individual.
She explains that take it means accepting "events as they are in the moment" and reminding yourself "that it is okay for right now - maybe not perfect but liveable." Leave it is the choice to reject the situation, step out of your comfort zone and say to yourself "I'm not going to accept it the way it is, and I know i can't change it, so I'm leaving." Petrie Sue says an example would be losing a client, only to have a better one appear. Change it may initially feel difficult or overwhelming but is a viable approach. "Remember, if you can't accept it and don't want to leave it, then working for a change is the only remaining option. " (feel free to re-post and/or link to your social media) |
