THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

2/18/2023

Mental health in early Buddhist teachings is simply a matter of becoming acquainted with the way the mind naturally works, and then using that knowledge to gradually guide the mind away from unhealthy intentions, thoughts, and habits toward more healthy ones. - Andrew Olendzki

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

We empathize with people with obvious physical health conditions; we sign their casts and send get-well cards and flowers. But people with mental health issues are all too often stigmatized, misunderstood, and ignored. Even those hospitalized with mental health crises often do not receive sympathy, let alone flowers. - Ravi Chandra

THE HIGHER YOUR 'VIBE' THE SMALLER YOUR TRIBE

2/16/2023

An important spiritual teaching is this statement:  the higher your vibe, the smaller your tribe.  That means those who truly vibrate at higher levels are very cautious, conservative with whom they spend their time.  So, I was struck by this information about Oprah Winfrey TV host, author and billionaire philanthropist who revealed that she only really has three people in her life that she counts as a 'close' friend: broadcaster Gayle King, journalist and activist Maria Shriver, and personal trainer Bob Greene.

The Buddha taught that we should be very selective about our friendships advising us to associate with 'equals' or those who are superior (superior persons can  lift us up and motivate us to continue spiritual growth).  His teaching, of course, means eliminating many associations if we're really evolving.

We become good spiritual practitioners by becoming good human beings. Without being a good human being, it is impossible to become a good spiritual practitioner.  - Ogyen Trinley Dorje

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

2/15/2023

We must take the present moment on its own terms, choosing the most skillful response while remaining unattached to some imagined sense of how the world ought to be. What’s artful about this approach to life is how it flows without judgment with the present condition. - Mike Gillis

YOGA IS THE MOST POPULAR 'FITNESS' CLASS IN AMERICA

2/14/2023

A recent study revealed that yoga is the most popular fitness class in America and is the most searched-for fitness class in 16 states, including Arkansas, California, and Illinois.

Yoga is especially favored in the Northeast, as states such as New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts all search for Yoga more than any other fitness class.

Coming in at a distant second is Pilates followed by Zumba, Body Pump, and Boxing.

The main reason yoga is the first choice people seek out for activity is because yoga is comprehensive.  it not only provides physical fitness but reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, increases compassion, develops inner peace and more.  Yoga helps people tap into their four inner healers:  the inner physician to heal the body; the inner psychologist to heal the emotions; the inner psychiatrist to heal the mind; and the inner priest to heal the soul.

Without wisdom, enlightenment would not be possible. - Hsing Yun

Rely on wisdom, not just an accumulation of knowledge. - Hsing Yun

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Blind faith is useless.  The Buddha never asked anyone to
believe him blindly. He always urged us to test his teachings
and prove them for ourselves. - Hsing Yun

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Although our emotions are normal aspects of experience, they can become like mental prisons. A single word, or even a look, from another person can trigger a range of emotions that consume us for hours, weeks, or longer. -  Lawrence Levy
