As the wise test gold against a standard, heating and cutting it, so you should accept my words after investigation, and not because of reverence for me. - Buddha
The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships. - T. K. V. Desikachar To be humble does not mean that we are 'less than', but that we are ready to accept the possibility that there is some wisdom that we still do not fully possess. - Tashi Nyima
The Buddha said, very cleverly, that the Buddhas point the way, but we must walk the path. - Tashi Nyima
Yoga stretching isn't simply about muscles. Real Yoga stretching means . . . **stretching perseverance when facing a distressing life issue! **stretching compassion toward someone you just don't like! **stretching patience when its so easy to become irritated, angry! - Victor M. Parachin When he was the Chancellor of a Buddhist College he founded in Taiwan, Zen Master Hsing Yun tells about the excitement among the students that American Ice Capades were going to perform in the city. He overheard one student say enthusiastically "If I can't watch the Ice Capades, it's going to be something I'll regret for the rest of my life."
However, there was a problem: the college had a regulation forbidding students from leaving the campus when classes were in session. So, on the day the Ice Capades were schedule to be in the city, Master Yun called the student into his office explaining: "I want to you help me with a few things. Please go to the city and buy office supplies for us." He added there would be several hundred dollars left over after she made the purchases and said: "You can use that money for anything you want, and it's OK if you return a little bit late. You don't need to ask any of your teachers for permission." The student laughed out loud smiling from ear to ear and responded: "Than you, Chancellor. I understand your meaning." She enjoyed the Ice Capades and, as a result of his kindness, became even more dedicated to her studies emerging as one of the schools top students. We recycle thoughts. Recycling is okay when it refers to waste and so on, but recycling thoughts is not okay, because for every cycle, the emotion gets bigger.
- Godwin Samarartne Research reveals that even a modest 2-minute pause can reduce your blood pressure and heart rate, which are both risk factors for heart disease. Additionally, your blood circulation will improve. Silence is more effective than meditative music. While some tunes can help heart rate, music won’t have a major impact on blood pressure and respiration that silence does.
The mind is so framed that it cannot work without expectation of fruits or anticipation of rewards for actions. If you smile when you meet your friend, you expect a smile in return. If you give a glass of water to somebody, you expect something in return. If you salute a friend, you expect him to salute you in return. This is the inborn nature of a worldly-minded man. Train the mind to work disinterestedly. - Swami Sivananda
If you master your mind, it will remain naturally concentrated, peaceful, and aware. You will even be able to wander around in a crowd without being distracted and carried away by attachment or aversion. —Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
