Are we living in end times? Who knows? I will finish with a bow of kindness for all those who are suffering, and with a bow of gratitude to the Buddha for all that I receive. We have this moment, and we are surrounded by beauty. - Satya Robyn
Buddhism is a path of supreme optimism, for one of it's basic tenets is that no human life or experience is to be wasted or forgotten, but all should be transformed into a source of wisdom and compassionate living. - Taitetsu Unno
In his book, Brotherhood (written with his brother Sanjiv) author, physician and spiritual leader, Deepak Chopra, tells of his early lessons in compassion which came via his father and mother. The elder Chopra was an Indian army medical doctor whose specialty was cardiology. Dr. Krishan Chopra asked for military permission to maintain a private practice on weekends. This was granted and so, from Saturday morning through Sunday evening each weekend, Dr. Chopra received patients at his home. Because of his strong reputation, patients came to Dr. Chopra from all over India. There was never a charge for anyone.
On those weekends, his wife, Pushpa Chopra, carefully observed the patients. When it was obvious to her that a patient was poor, she would quietly ask a servant to provide that patient a meal and, if the need was great, give money for a train ticket home. Our friends influence us greatly. Therefore, it’s wise and skillful to assess friendships by asking questions such as these: Is being with this friend better than being alone? When I’m with him, am I growing as I do when I’m alone? Does she make me feel happy and loved? Do I feel safe with him? Is there loyalty and commitment from this person? When I’m with this person is there joy, growth, peace? If your answer to these types of questions is mainly ‘yes’ then you have an authentic friendship. Of course, if your answer is ‘no’ then it may be time to let it go and move on. - VMP
To be simple, to appreciate what has been given to us, and to take care of our body, is an act of humility. - Vanda Scaravelli
