If we habitually speak before we think, this can sow all kinds of trouble for others and ourselves. Think, then speak. - Tulku Thondup

Yoga has definitely come west.  Now the challenge before us is to unlock its full potential, which is possible only when we are willing to practice it in depth.  I like to contemplate the possibility of a future civilization that lives b such lofty yogic princples as nonharming, kindness, tolerance, cooperation, forgiveness, contentment, peace and genuin happiness.

Ayurveda is considered by many scholars to be the oldest healing science. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means 'The Science of Life.' Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the 'Mother of All Healing.' It stems from the ancient Vedic culture and was taught for many thousands of years in an oral tradition from accomplished masters to their disciples. Some of this knowledge was set to print a few thousand years ago, but much of it is inaccessible. The principles of many of the natural healing systems now familiar in the West have their roots in Ayurveda, including Homeopathy and Polarity Therapy.  -  Ayurvedic Instituted, New Mexico

In terms of being in a relationship, this country has changed significantly and dramatically.  Here are US Census reports on the state of single people:
  • In 2017, the U.S. census reported 110.6 million unmarried people over the age of 18—that’s 45.2 percent of the American adult population
  • In 1960, 72 percent of adults were married.
  • Among today’s growing single population, 63 percent have never been married, 23 percent are divorced, and 13 percent are widowed.
It's unclear which this lifestyle shift means but if you are single and feeling either lonely because of it, perhaps you can take comfort in knowing you're not alone.  In fact, you are part of what appears to be a growing trend.

All spiritual traditions identify obstacles on the path toward enlightenment. The Catholic Church, for example, has Seven Deadly Sins. In the Yoga Sutras compiled by the sage Patanjali, nine obstacles are cited:

  1. Illness - disease and sickness have a weakening effect upon mind and spirit.
  2. Apathy - laziness of mind.
  3. Doubt - the inability to believe and accept teachings.

  4. Carelessness - lack of persistence; easily distracted.
  5. Sloth - laziness of body.
  6. Worldliness - overly influenced by material desires.
  7. False vision - blind faith.
  8. Consistency - inability or unwillingness to sustain a practice.
  9. Instability - overly affected by blame, praise, discouragement.
While any one can hinder a person's spiritual evolution, a combination of obstacles usually results in a complete lack of progress.
