In a recent randomized control study, the Center for Wellness and Achievement in Education worked with 96 office staff at the San Francisco Unified School District. The participants practiced Transcendental Meditation – which involves repeating a mantra – over a period of four months.

At the end of the study, researchers found that those who practized TM reported less perceived stress and higher emotional intelligence when compared to the control group. Emotional intelligence refers to an individual’s ability to be attuned to their own and others’ emotions and to be able to recognize and label each emotion appropriately.
