Here's what I'm increasingly coming across with people:  loneliness.  In spite of the fact that many people I know may be partnered, married, have children, are working full time, they still feel an emotional void best described by words such as isolated, alone, deserted, friendless.  Yes, they have family, acquaintances and colleagues; yes they have access to social media and yet, they are unable to identify someone as a "good, close" friend.

The fact is that establishing an authentic connection with an individual takes time.  A lot more time that we might think.   Research indicates that it takes 30 hours of interaction to make a casual friend, 140 hours to make a good friend and 300 hours to make a best friend.  This means, of course, that the number of "best friends" will be quite small, likely less than 3 or 4.

So, with a new year evolving why not consider making time to establish a true friendship with one or two people. Ask yourself, 'whom do I resonate with?' and 'who resonates with me?'  Then consider reaching out.   Make the time; make the commitment.  Let 2024 be your year of friendship development.
