Our friends influence us greatly.  Therefore, it’s wise and skillful to assess friendships by asking questions such as these:  Is being with this friend better than being alone?  When I’m with him, am I growing as I do when I’m alone?  Does she make me feel happy and loved?  Do I feel safe with him? Is there loyalty and commitment from this person?  When I’m with this person is there joy, growth, peace?  If your answer to these types of questions is mainly ‘yes’ then you have an authentic friendship.  Of course, if your answer is ‘no’ then it may be time to let it go and move on. - VMP
