Remember the importance of sangha (community). Surrounded by people who respect the Earth, we too will respect the Earth. Surrounded by people who are unhappy and unmotivated, we too will be unhappy and unmotivated. We need support if we are to live more simply, and by supporting others, we cultivate our generosity and compassion. - Justin Whitaker

I have had no control over the most important losses that I’ve experienced.  The military coup, the divorce of my parents, my father’s abandonment of us, the death of my daughter. I could give you a  long list. The only thing I can control is how I react, so I just plunge into whatever comes and say yes to life. What’s the worst that can happen? Most people experience too much self-pressure.  Do more.  Be more.  Produce more.  Try reminding yourself that you’re a human, not a machine; that it’s perfectly fine to ease up on yourself and enjoy your life.  That can look like this:  sleep for 8 or 9 hours not 5 or 6.  Exercise for 1 hour rather than 2 or 3.  Study for 3 hours not all night long.  Read for 2 hours not 4 or 5.  Give yourself permission to do and enjoy things which bring you happiness and joy – yoga, meditation, walks, establish a new friendship, deepen an old one.   Repeat this mantra:  I am a human, not a machine. - Victor M.
