Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo is Spiritual Director for Kunzang Odsal Palyul Changchub Choling, a Buddhist center in Poolesville, Maryland, which includes one of the largest communities of Western monks and nuns in North America. In 1987 she was the first Western female to be identified and declared the reincarnation of a Tibetan Lama and, in 1987, was authorized to teach by Holiness Penor Rinpoche.
Jetsunma has never been to an AA meeting but began reading AA literature because some of her "best students" were in twelve step programs. “I can hardly believe that the more I learn about it how compatible it is with the Buddha’s teaching, how completely compatible it is with Buddhist thought,” she writes.
