One of the world's best known and most enduring actors is Jane Fonda. In addition to her film and television work, Fonda has been instrumental in promoting exercise via a series of tapes and DVDs. In 1994, she released her first yoga "tape" and was interviewed about it by Yoga Journal. Here are four thoughts about yoga she shared at that time:
1. Proper breath work is crucial. "When in doubt breathe. Yogis say if we can control our breath we can control our life."
2. She was drawn to yoga by others who appeared calm and content. "Whenever I meet someone who does yoga well and regularly, they have a grace about them, a centeredness. I wanted some of that."
3. Her yoga tape is introductory and for the sedentary population. "Obviously, for an advanced yoga person, my tape is not enough. But there are so many people who don't do any exercise, and they'll never do aerobics. This is a general way to get them to become aware of their body. Maybe that will encourage them to go forward - but even if they don't go any further than that, they'll feel great when the tape is over."
4. A focus on the physical aspect can lead one to the spiritual side of yoga. "I think one of the reasons Yoga hasn't become more popular sooner in America is that people view it as a spiritual trip they have to take and they may not be ready to do that. But I also think that through focusing on the breath, you can enter another place which can become spiritual, even though you're not thinking of it that way."

St. Francis de Sales was an evolved soul and a 17th century French Bishop of the Catholic Church. In his book Introduction To The Devout Life, he offers this tip for bringing your meditation practice into your day:
When walking in a beautiful garden most people are wont to gather a few flowers as they go, which they keep, and enjoy their scent during the day. So, when the mind explores some mystery in meditation, it is well to pick out one or more points that have specially arrested the attention, and are most likely to be helpful to you through the day, and this should be done at once before quitting the subject of your meditation.

In 2014, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming June 21 as 'International Day of Yoga'. The resolution introduced by India's ambassador to the UN was a follow up of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call during his address to the UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014, asking world leaders to adopt an international Yoga day, as "Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being."

The Western European country of Luxembourg recently passed (unanimously) a new bill to strengthen the protection of all animals in the country. Citizens will no longer be able to kill or instruct another to kill an animal unnecessarily, without facing up to 3 years imprisonment or a €200,000 fine. Further, if an animal is injured, suffering, or in danger, the people of Luxembourg will now be obliged to rescue the animal. And, among the amendments is one concerning pet ownership. If a person wishes to keep an animal as a pet, there are now specific obligations with regard to feeding, providing water, and adequate care if it gets sick.
Luxembourg was also the first European country to ban the killing of animals for economic purposes such as the killing of male chicks in the egg industry, or male calves in the dairy industry.

Colonel Sanders famous chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken, would like to entice vegetarians to eat at their restaurants. So, they are in the process of developing a fried "chicken" without the chicken, a vegetarian alternative which would still use their unique, secret blend of spices and herbs.
“Development of the recipe is still in its very early stages, and so the options we’re exploring in our kitchen are still top secret,” a spokesman for KFC said in a statement to news media. “Once we’ve perfected the recipe, we aim to test with customers this year, and if all goes well, we hope to launch a new vegetarian option in 2019.”

Various studies presented recently at Nutrition 2018, a meeting of the American Society for Nutrition in Boston, revealed (again) that being vegetarian results in being a much healthier person. Some cases presented include:
- A Netherlands study of nearly 6,000 adults found that those who replaced animal-based protein with plant-based protein showed reduced risk of developing coronary heart disease, or CHD. Consuming more meat than plant protein increases rates of CHD.
- A Brazil study found that 4,500-odd adults who consumed more plant proteins cut their likelihood of plaque-clogged arteries by 60 percent compared to their carnivorous counterparts.
