FOLLOWING A BUDDHIST PATH MEANS HAVING GOOD MANNERS

2/10/2021

Dharma is a Sanskrit word with various meanings in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. There is no single word translation for dharma in Western languages. When Buddhists use the word dharma they refer to the written teachings of the Buddha found in various earliest Buddhist texts. Beings who rely on and are confident in the Dharma can realize the same truth and liberation experienced by the Buddha. In the Pali language, dharma is spelled dhamma.

Interestingly the Sanskrit word dharma, which generally refers to the 'teachings of the Buddha', also contains the meaning of 'good manners'. This strongly suggests that a Buddhist is an individual who exhibits considerably courtesy, civility and good manners.
